40 gold bars recovered at Kamalapur Rly Station

Government Railway Police (GRP) men on Friday recovered 40 gold bars worth Tk 24 million (Tk 2.40 crore) at Kamalapur Railway Station in the city. The GRP personnel arrested a man for possessing the precious metal. The arrested is Mohammad Shahin, 38. When contacted, Abdul Majid, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of GRP Police Station, Kamalapur, said, being tipped-off that a gold consignment was being brought to Dhaka from Chittagong by express train ‘Turna Nishitha’ on Friday morning, a GRP team was waiting at Airport Railway Station in Kurmitola since early in the morning. Based on the information, the team identified a passenger named Mohammad Shahin inside a compartment of the inter-city train and followed him when it left Airport Railway Station for Kamalapur Railway Station, he said. When the train reached Kamalapur Railway Station around 7:30 am, police challenged him just after he got down on the platform from the compartment of Turna Nishitha. Then they found the 40 gold bars searching his body, according to UNB.
