40 held for illegal entry thru\\\' Putkhali border

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) detained 40 Bangladeshi nationals while entering the country illegally from India on Putkhali border in Sharsha upazila of Jessore on Wednesday midnight. The detainees hail from different parts of neighbouring Bagerhat and Gopalganj districts and Barisal. Lieutenant Colonel Mostafizur Rahman, commanding officer of BGB 23-Battalion, said being tipped off, the border force members detained 25 men, 14 women and a child from Chorermath area of the border, while they were entering the Bangladesh territory from India without any valid documents. Meanwhile, the brokers, who helped the 40 cross the border, escaped the scene sensing the presence of the BGB team. The arrestees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, according to UNB.
