400 shops gutted in Ctg\\\'s Singapore market

A fire gutted hundreds of different kinds of shops in Singapore market in Chittagong cit on Wednesday evening. The fire went up in flames around 6:40pm and was brought under control at night, police and eyewitnesses sources said. Over 400 different kinds of shop mostly garments, crockeries, cosmetics, shoes and leathers in the Somobai Singapore market near Chhotopool in city’s Agrabad area were burnt in the fire. The makeshift structured market, most popular for the middle income group housed around 500 shops and its owners could not save their belongings from the fire. More than 20 fire fighting vehicles of six units brought the blaze under control around 9:00pm. A large number of law enforcers have cordoned the market to ensure security and check burglary in shops. The origin and loss of the fire could not be ascertained immediately. But loss of the fire might be colossal, the sources said. However, none was injured in the devastating fire, according to a news agency.
