4,054 tonnes of VGF rice distributed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, July 14 (BSS): Distribution of 4,054.70 tonnes of rice among 0.40 million (4.05 lakh) poor families was completed under the special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) Programme in the district on Tuesday.
The rice was distributed to assist the poor in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer (DRRO) Abdus Salam told the news agency that the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief had allocated the rice for the poor and the distressed families of all eight upazilas and two municipalities in the district.
As per directive and supervision of the district administration, the upazila administrations concerned with assistance of local public representatives and Union Parishad (UP) level committees completed distribution of the rice among the listed VGF card holder families.
According to the official sources, each of the selected beneficiary family received 10 kg VGF rice on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Fitr in all 76 UPs under eight upazilas, Badarganj and Haragachh municipalities in the district, he said.
Under the programme, 258.40 tonnes of rice were distributed among 25,840 VGF card holder families in Sadar Upazila, 857.01 tonnes among 85,701 families in Mithapukur, 651.65 tonnes among 65,165 families in Pirganj, 526.15 tonnes among 52,615 families in Pirgachha, 431.42 tonnes among 43,142 families in Kawnia, 486.28 tonnes among 48,628 families in Gangachara, 535.01 tonnes among 53,501 families in Badarganj and 262.57 tonnes among 26,257 families in Taraganj upazilas.
Besides, 30.81 tonnes of special VGF rice were distributed among 3,081 distressed families in Badarganj municipality and 15.40 tonnes among 1,540 families in Haragach municipality in the district.
