40mw power plant starts on trial basis in Khulna

KHULNA, May 14: 40 mw Quick Power Plant of Khanjahan Ali Power Company has been started on trial basis from last Thursday. Source said that Khanjahan Ali Power Company was established with a 40 mw quick power plant at a cost of Tk 5 billion on 3 acres of land adjacent to the Nawapara Pouroshava. The construction work which started from August 10, 2010, now nearly complete, will add 40 mw electricity to the national grid within a week. Nitish Mondal, an official of Khanjahan Ali Power Plant informed that machines have been brought from Finland and a furnace oil tanker with the capacity of 26 thousand tonnes has been constructed. 4 C&F licences cancelled Another message adds: Four licenses of C&F (Clearing and Forwarding) Bhomarah and Benapole land port have been cancelled due to import of fruits by false declaration and evading tax. At the same time, eight importers were also fined Tk. 0.8 million and 10 thousand. Bhomra land port sources said that on a secret information a team of customs led by Customs Superintend Khulna Nizamuddin raided Bhomrah land port and seized 7 trucks of fruits and one truck of betel leaf by false declaration from India through Bhomrah land port Monday last. False documents were submitted to release the imported goods for evading tax. A case was filed in this connection. Woman electrocuted Another message adds: A female gher (fish firm) employee was electrocuted at Benerpota of Satkhira Sadar recently. The deceased was identified as Jahanara Begum Janu (42), wife of Momrej Ali of village Bienerpota. Police and local source said that an electric wire fell on the gher near their hut in a storm. At one stage she touched that and was electrocuted. A UD case was filed in this connection.
