40pc budgetary allocation for agriculture urged

Bangladesh Krishak Samity on Thursday demanded that 40 percent of the upcoming 2014-15 fiscal year’s budget be spent on agriculture.
The organization, a front of CPB, also wanted profitable price for paddy, wheat, maize, and jute, government buying centre at union parishad level, adequate cold storages for preserving vegetables and village rationing and seeds insurance systems.
The samity presented the demands at a press conference at Mukti Bhaban on Comrade Monishing Sarak in the city’s Purana Palton.
The demands will also be presented at the Agricultural Ministry and Deputy Commissioners on June 8, said Jahid Hossain Khan, organizing secretary of BKS, in a written statement, according to UNB.
