Tuesday, 24 June 2014

Police and border guards have nabbed 42 Bangladeshis, 12 of them women, from various parts of the North 24-Pargana district of India’s West Bengal state during the last two days. A West Bengal police spokesman said these Bangladeshis were mostly caught from the Bongaon bus terminal. ‘They had all entered without any valid travel documents,’ the police spokesman said. He said the police was trying to find out whether the women were being trafficked into India. ‘We suspect they might be victims of organised trafficking, but let us find out,’ he said. The special drive against illegal migrants from Bangladesh have been launched in border districts of West Bengal, specially after the arrest of Narayanganj multiple murder accused Nur Hossain in Kolkata. ‘This follows a directive from the Indian Home Ministry to all border states in east and northeast India to tighten vigil to prevent illegal migrants from Bangladesh trying to enter India,’ a police official said. The Mobile Task Force of the West Bengal police and the BSF are jointly involved in this special drive, according to bdnews24.com.
