43 short-listed for CIP status

The government has short listed names of 43 leading industrialists for awarding CIP (Commercially Important Person) status for the year 2009 on basis of their export performance.
The Ministry of Commerce has sent the list of the leading businessmen and their companies to the NBR for tax clearance.
Under the existing rule, any person evading taxes or defaulting in loan repayment is not entitled to receive the honour from government.
The ministry of commerce has selected the businessmen in 14 categories--- raw jute, jute goods (jute yarn, carpet manufacturers), frozen foods, dehydrated salted or other fishes, tea, readymade garments (woven), agro-processing (tobacco, processed foods, jam, jelly, pickles, spices, chips, fried rice, puffed rice), RMG (knit) single and group, plastic goods, textile (fabrics/cloth), home textile, computer software and miscellaneous (electrical goods, jewelry, cotton yarn, hat, cap, toiletries, artificial and natural flowers).
Tea exporting company MM Ispahani Ltd Managing Director (MD) Mirza Ali Behruj Ispahani has been primarily selected for CIP status.
Among the initially selected raw jute exporters FR Jute Trading Ltd Managing Director (MD) Sharif Fazlur Rahman, Uttara Jute Traders' owner Sujit Kumar Bhattacharya and Eastern Traders' owner Sanjit Kumar Das came in the short list.
Jute goods exporters are Janata Jute Mills Ltd MD Nazmul Huq, Akij Jute Mills Ltd Chairman Sheikh Nasiruddin, Sadat Jute Industries Ltd MD Mahmudul Huq.
Frozen foods exporters are Seamark (BD) Ltd Chairman and MD Iqbal Ahmed, Fresh Foods Ltd MD Touhidur Rahman, Jahanabad Sea Foods Ltd MD Abdul Jabbar Mollah, Minhar Sea Foods Ltd MD Habibullah Khan.
Readymade garments exporters are Sinha Industries Ltd and Opex Industries Ltd Chairman Anisur Rahman Sinha, Interfab Shirt Manufacturers' Ltd MD Ahsan Kabir Khan, Manta Apparels Ltd Abdus Salam Murshedy, Opex Stylewear Ltd MD Anwar Hossain.
Owner of Agriculture Marketing Co Ltd Amzad Khan Chowdhury has been initially selected from agro-processing sector.
Knitwear exporters (single) include Merina Apparels Ltd and Nafa Apparels Ltd MD Nafis Shikder, Apex Spinning and Knitting Mills Ltd MD Jahur Ahmed, 4H Fashions Ltd MD Gauhar Siraj Jamil, managing partner of Khaleq Knitting and Garments Khaleda Parvin, GMS composite Knitting Industries Ltd director Shamsul Arefin, Starlight Sweater Ltd MD Salauddin Alamgir, Landmark Fabrics Ltd chairman Shri Dipak Bhaumik, Multifabs' Ltd MD Mohiuddin Faruqui, Tung Hai Sweater Ltd MD Mahbubur Rahman and Alif Garments Ltd MD Ajijul Islam.
Three knit group exporters are KDS Group Chairman and MD Khalilur Rahman, Clifton Group MD M.Kamaluddin Chowdhury and JK Group MD Jahangir Alam Khan.

Exporters of melamine, textiles (fabrics/cloths) and plastic Sharif Melamine MD Rajjab Sharif, Hamid Fabrics Ltd MD Abdullah al Mahmud and Bengal Plastic Group Director Jasimuddin respectively have been primarily selected for CIP status.
