46 lakh new voters likely to be enlisted

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Thursday said some 46 lakh new voters are expected to be enlisted in the new voter rolls. Inaugurating the voter-list updating programme on the Shibalaya upazila parishad premises, the CEC noted those who will turn 18 by January 1, 2015, will be eligible to be included in the voter list. He said the new voter list will have better photos of the voters compared to the previous ones. The photos of voters taken during the voter-list updating back in 2007 were not that much clear because of the use of webcam, he said, but this time around the photos and signatures will be taken using better quality software, digital cameras and digital signature pads to ensure better photos, according to UNB.
