Joliot-Curie Medal of Peace for Bangabandhu

47th anniversary today

Today (May 23) marks the 47 years of Bangabandhu's receipt of the Joliot-Curie Medal of Peace, the first ever international award for Bangladesh.
The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was awarded the medal on May 23, 1973.
A call has been made to commemorate the 47th anniversary of Bangabandhu receiving the medal by upholding the works of the Father of the Nation in establishing world peace and human rights.
A press release in this regard was issued by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Birth Centenary Celebration National Implementation Committee on Wednesday.
As per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive this year, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the day will be observed in a limited manner without any kind of public gathering.
The Joliot-Curie Medal of Peace award was the first ever international award for Bangladesh and it was an international recognition to Bangabandhu for his outstanding contribution to establishing world peace.
Bangabandhu spent his whole life to ensure people's economic emancipation and build a "Sonar Bangla" free from all sorts of hunger, poverty, illiteracy and exploitation.
