48 gold bars seized at Shahjalal

Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) International Airport seized 48 gold bars weighing about 5.6 kilograms from an aircraft on Thursday morning. Ruhul Amin, Assistant Commissioner (Customs) at Hazrat Shahjalal Int’l Airport in Kurmitola in the city said a Dhaka-bound ‘BG 046 flight’ of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dubai landed at the airport around 2:45am. Tipped off, the Customs officials along with other intelligence members conducted a search in the aeroplane around 3:15am and recovered the gold wrapped in a black cloth at its cargo hall, said Ruhul Amin. However, none was arrested in this connection. The market value of the seized gold will be around Tk 25 million, according to UNB.
