48,910 hectares brought under Aman cultivation in Pabna

PABNA, Sept 28: A total of 48,910 hectares of land have been brought under transplanted Aman cultivation in Pabna district this year due to favourable whether conditions in the region.
Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) office set a target to cultivate T-Aman paddy on 48,910 hectares of land in the district this year with a production target of 1,32,392 tonnes of paddy, sources said. Of the total, some 48,314 hectares of land would be cultivated with HYV (high yield variety) with an output target of 1,31,409 tonnes of paddy, 595 hectares hybrid with the target of 963 tonnes, sources said.
Later, the target fixed by the department was increased bringing an additional 3,342 hectares of land under cultivation due to favourable climatic condition during the current season.
To make the cultivation programme a success, Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) distributed high quality Aman seeds to the farmers at fair prices through its sale centres and approved dealers.
Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) are disbursing agri loans on easy terms to the poor and marginal farmers to help them cultivate the paddy, said a RAKUB official here. In addition, the DAE has been conducting training for the farmers to help them adopt modern technologies of paddy cultivation, crop management and preservation of quality seeds, said additional deputy director (Training) of DAE.
Deputy Director (DD) of DAE Md, Mostafizur Rahman said more lands would be brought under cultivation as a good number of farmers living in char areas were cultivating the late varieties of paddies.
The DD said availability of fertilisers, insecticides and other necessary agri-inputs had been ensured at the grass roots level.
