48th convocation of DU tomorrow

The 48th convocation of Dhaka University (DU) will be held today (Sunday) with fanfare and festivity. Graduates are all in a festive mood to celebrate the colourful event.
Hundreds of new graduates who got registered for the formal farewell programme were seen capturing group and individual photos by giving a final touch to their beloved academia.
"Only a graduate can feel the ecstasy of convocation, which I am feeling after getting my academic costumes," said Protiti Shahid, newly-graduated student of the Department of Accounting and Information System.
Her juvenile face just become cheerless and gloomy when asked about the feelings as she is going to put an end to the academic circle. "Unfortunately, through the convocation we are also going to miss the adorable campus life" she added.
Like Protiti, umber marvellous graduates of the country's premiere university expressed their feelings to the reporter saying that their dreams are going to be true through convocation.
Meanwhile, the university authorities have completed all necessary ground works including distribution of the costume to host the university's 48th convocation tomorrow (Monday).
This year, participation of female students will take lead over their male counterparts. According to the official data, of the total registered 8,312 participants, some 4,297 are female while remaining 4015 are male.
"It's a clear reflection of the progress that women has made in the society including tertiary level education", said DU Vice Chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique.     
Addressing a press conference Prof Siddique said they have completed necessary preparation including distribution of academic costumes and gifts that will be finished today (Sunday).
Director General of the European Organisation for Nuclear Research Prof R Heuer is expected to address the ceremony as convocation speaker while President also Chancellor of the university M Abdul Hamid will preside over the programme, he added.
Dhaka University, the country's oldest and largest university stared holding certificate warding through convocation which have been turned into an integral part of university study since 1922.
"Regrettably, the university authorities failed to hold the university's convocation regularly, because of political and other causes, which is unexpected," he added.
He said the authorities have taken tight security measures to hold the convocation safely. The graduate students were asked to attend at the rehearsal programme to be held on the university's central playground today afternoon.
