499 turtle, hemp seized in Magura: 1 held

Police arrested a man in possession of 499 turtles of rare species and 36 kilograms (kg) of hemp in Shalikha Upazila in Magura district on Thursday. The arrestee was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 35, a resident of Sharsha Upazila of Jessore district. Biplob Kumar Nath, officer-in-charge of Shalikha Police Station, said being tipped off, a police team raided Singra Bazar on Magura-Jessore Highway in Shalikha Upazila and intercepted a Dhaka-bound microbus coming from Jessore around 10:00am. A total of 499 turtles of rare species and 36 kg hemp were recovered from the microbus. Later, police arrested Rafiqul. A case was filed, according to a news agency.
