4th BD-US security dialogue in Washington on Sept 11

The fourth Bangladesh-US dialogue on security issues will be held in Washington DC on September 11, reports UNB.
Chargé d' Affaires at the US Embassy in Dhaka David Meale informed the date of the dialogue while addressing a function in the city on Thursday.
"The United States and Bangladeshi government and military leaders are preparing for the upcoming Bangladesh-United States Security Dialogue that will be hosted in Washington DC on September 11," he said.
US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat is already in the United States to attend the Security Dialogue.
The discussion, this time, will also focus on a broad range of security-related topics, including strategic priorities and regional issues, security assistance, global security, and non-proliferation cooperation, according to Foreign Ministry sources.
Both Bangladesh and the USA will also discuss humanitarian assistance and disaster response issues at the highest levels of government, helping create a clear path forward for cooperation between the two countries.
Additional Foreign Secretary (Bilateral) Mizanur Rahman will lead the Bangladesh delegation while US side will be led by US Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Puneet Talwar, Foreign Ministry sources said.
Senior officials from the Foreign Ministry, Home Ministry, Defence, Disaster Management, Armed Forces Division and Bangladesh Embassy in the Washington will be there in the Bangladesh delegation.
On April 22, 2014, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs Tom Kelly and former Additional Foreign Secretary Mustafa Kamal chaired the third US-Bangladesh Dialogue on security issues.
The dialogue usually reflects two governments' growing defence relationship and shared commitment to peace and prosperity in the region.
It supports growing partnership in maritime security, counterterrorism, disaster risk management, peacekeeping, law enforcement, nonproliferation, joint military exercises and exchanges, and other security issues.
Meanwhile, Appreciating the progress made in Bangladesh, the United States (US) said on Thursday the country is more prepared for a major earthquake in Dhaka city today than in the past.
"I can say it is the most important because all of us are more prepared for a major earthquake in Dhaka city today than we were yesterday," said Chargé d' Affaires at the US Embassy in Bangladesh David Meale.
The diplomat made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the 'Disaster Response Exercise and Exchange (DREE)' at Army Golf Club in the city.
Mr Meale said all should be proud of this progress and success, but with this progress and success comes great responsibility- responsibility to genuinely and honestly prepare all families, communities and organisations for a major earthquake in Bangladesh.
Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General M Mainul Islam, Deputy Commanding General of United States Army (Pacific-North) Major General Gregory Bilton, Director General of Armed Forces Division Directorate of Operations and Plans Brigadier General Azazul Bar Chowdhury also spoke on the occasion.
