5 alleged robbers killed in mob beating

Five alleged robbers were killed and two others critically injured as community policemen along with local people beat them up following a hot chase at Kadamtoli in the city early Friday, the police said.
Witnesses said the on-duty community police members at Khankar Sharif Road of Matuail challenged a group of 15 people for their suspicious movement at about 3:00am.
The gang equipped with local weapons attacked the policemen that forced them to raise alarm by using loudspeakers. Infuriated residents of the area after a hot chase caught seven members of the gang and started beating them leaving five of them killed on the spot.
Seriously injured Nazrul Islam (35) and Mahfuz (32) were admitted into Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment while rest of their accomplices fled away.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kadamtoli police station Kazi Aiyubur Rahman said the community police chased a gang of robbers while they were preparing to commit dacoity. "Five robbers were beaten to death by mob and two others were injured," he confirmed.
He said they have started investigation into the incident. "We are yet to identify the deceased persons. Even the injured criminals cannot say their identities," the OC added.
Locals said several incidents of robbery took place in the area during the last several months, forcing them to remain alert.
