5 children drown in Kushtia, Rajbari

Five children drowned in separate incidents in Rajbari and Kushtia districts on Tuesday. In Rajbari, two children drowned in a pond at Mahadebpur village in Sadar Upazila at 12noon. The deceased were identified as Shubarna, 8, daughter of Akon Mandal of the village, and Dola, 6, daughter of Abdur Razzak, hailing from adjacent Doyalnagar village. Local people said Dola along with her mother was on a visit to the house of her grandfather Akan Mandal. Dola and her aunt Shubarna remained missing after they went to a pond adjacent to the house to take a bath at noon. Their bodies were found floating after a long time. In Kushtia, three children drowned in an abandoned well in the afternoon in Shahartali area. The deceased were identified as Shakil, son of Majibur, Likhon and Tarun, hailing from Barkhada area. Police said Tarun, Shakil and Liknon, accompanied by Tarun’s grandfather Samsul went to a paddy field at noon. The trio remained missing after they had left the field on Shamsul’s order. Later, around 5pm, Shakil’s father found their dead body in an abandoned well. Being informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy, according to a news agency.
