5 cops, 2 robbers hurt in gunfight

At least seven people, including five policemen, were injured in a gunfight between policemen and robbers at Sherpur village at Moulvibazar Sadar upazila on Sunday night. Police said being tipped off that bandits’ gang was taking preparation for committing robbery at Sherpur village, a team of police conducted a drive to arrest them around 11:30pm. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on them, triggering a gunfight that left two gangsters and five policemen, including Senior Assistant Police Super of Sadar Model Police Station Sirajul Huda, bullet-hit. Police arrested 11 gangsters with the help of local people. The injured robbers were admitted to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital. Police also recovered four firearms and 20 rounds of bullet from the spot, according to UNB.
