5 cops among 10 hurt in shootout with \\\'robbers\\\'

At least 10 people, including five policemen, were injured in a 'shootout' between police and a gang of robbers in Grosgram Bazar under Tarash Upazila in Sirajganj district on Friday. Being tipped off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a police team conducted a drive around 2:30am. Sensing the presence of the police, the robbers opened fire on them prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, triggering a 'shootout'. Five alleged robbers received bullet injures in the 'shootout'. They are: Abdul Momin, 36, Alhaz Mandal, 26, Zia Sardar, 28, Abul Kalam, 36, and Anwar Hossain, 38. Besides, five cops, including officer-in-charge of Tarash Police Station Ataur Rahman, suffered bullet injuries during the 'gunfight'. The injured were rushed to Sirajganj General Hospital. One shutter gun, five rounds of bullets and some locally made weapons were recovered from the spot, according to UNB.
