5 cops closed on extortion charge

Five policemen, including a sub-inspector (SI), were closed to the Faridpur Highway Police Super’s Office on Thursday on charge of extorting money from vehicles in Khulna. They are SI Deen Mohamamd, assistant sub-inspector Abbas Uddin and constables – Monjel, Habibur Rahman and Sirajuddin. All of them had been stationed at Chuknagar Highway Police camp before the departmental action was taken against them. Locals said the five policemen, including Deen Mohammad, a sub-inspector of Chuknagar Highway police, had been involved in taking tolls from vehicles on the Chuknagar-Satkhira road in the name of security check for long. On July 14, the accused were taking toll from some vehicles passing through Chara Batala village on the Chuknagar-Satkhira Road. On information, a taskforce team of police observed the matter while passing the area. The action was taken against the four cops based on a report of the taskforce team, said Mohamamd Mannan Faraji, officer-in-charge of Katakhali Highway Police, according to UNB.
