5 cops hurt as robbers dash their vehicle with looted truck

A police vehicle fell in a field beside Dhaka-Narayanganj highway after being dashed by a truck hijacked by a gang of robbers on Monday. Five policemen were injured in the incident that happened in Fatullah under Narayanganj Sadar upazila. Following the incident, a gun battle took place between police and the gangsters who tried to flee the scene with the looted truck after the incident. Police said a suspected robber was hit and injured by bullets during the encounter. Then the gangsters tried to retreat and at one stage, managed to escape leaving behind the bullet-hit robber, an official of the Fatullah Model Police Station said. Among the five policemen of Fatullah Model Police Station injured, four – Sub-Inspector Nahid Ahmed, Assistant Sub-Inspector Quamrul Hasan and constables Mazammel Sultan and Sohel were admitted to a local hospital. The law enforcers arrested bullet-hit robber – Ibrahim Miah Kalam, a resident of Pagla area in Fatullah – after the gunfight. The robbers were taking the looted truck, loaded with iron rods, from Dhaka to an unknown destination, police said, according to a news agency.
