5 cops injured in attack by miscreants

Five policemen have been injured in an attack by some identified miscreants at Dakkhin Pariabahar in Barlekha in Sylhet on Monday. The criminals also snatched two handcuffed accused from police custody beating up the five cops. A team from Barlekha Police Station arrested Osman Uddin, 30, an accused in a mugging case, from his village in Beanibazar upazila. Following his confessional statement, the team from Barlekha Police Station with the help of Beanibazar police raided Dakkhin Pariabahar village around 2:30am and arrested another accused Abu Bakkar from his residence. As soon as the news of Abu Bakkar’s arrest spread, the relatives of the accused along with local miscreants swooped on the policemen when they arrested another accused Morol from his house, said Jahirul Islam Talukdar, sub-inspector of Beanibazar Police Station.
The relatives of the two accused along with the local hoodlums beat up the policemen and snatched the arrestees from police. Five policemen including Akbar Hossain, inspector of Barlekha Police Station, sub-inspector Amitabh Chowdhury, sub-inspector Bikash Chandra, sub-inspector Jahirul Islam Talukdar and constable Faruk were injured in the attack, according to a news agency.
