A Dhaka-bound train has slammed into a human hauler as it crossed tracks in Narayanganj Sadar upazila, killing five people and injuring at least nine others. The incident in Rasulpur’s Pagla took place around 10:30pm on Monday, said Md Sharfuddin, the ASP of Fatullah Model Police Station. The injured were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). The bodies of a woman and three men were kept in the hospital morgue. Sharfuddin said one person was killed on the spot, while another four died on the way to the hospital. “The accident occurred when the train rammed the ‘Laguna’ at the unauthorised crossing which had no gates or attendant.” The identities of the deceased could not be immediately known, Sharfuddin said. DMCH Police Camp Sub-Inspector Mozammel Haque said the injured were in critical state. Dhaka District Railway’s Manager Md Arifuzzaman said, “You have to look both ways before crossing a railway track. But the ‘Laguna’ driver was desperate. “He did not even hear the train’s whistle.” He added the train had reached Kamalapur Railway Station safely, according to bdnews24.com.
