5 die in Sirajganj road crash

Five people, including two of a family, were killed and another was injured in a road accident in Mulibari on the western side of Bangabandhu (Jamuna) Bridge approach road in Sirajganj Sadar upazila early Tuesday. The deceased were identified as Abdul Razzaq, 60, his daughter Razina Khatun, 16, Mamata, 24, wife of Jabbar, hailed from Brahmanbaria village of Belkuchi upazila, Anwar Hossain, 25, son of Delwar Hossain, hailed from Kazipura village under Kamarkhand upazila and Arman, 30, an auto-rickshaw driver, hailed from Porabari of Sirajganj Sadar upazila. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Sirajganj Sadar Police Station Golam Mostafa said the accident took place in Mulibari level-crossing area where a collision between two buses left at least 17 dead and 60 injured on Sunday. Monday’s accident involved a CNG-run auto-rickshaw and a bus. All the five deceased were the auto-rickshaw passengers. The injured is a bus passenger. Police and locals said a Chapainawabganj-bound bus of ‘Shaymoli Paribahan’ from Narayanganj rammed the auto-rickshaw around 12:30am instantly killing five of the six passengers of the auto-rickshaw, including its driver. The lone injured person, a passenger of the bus, was identified as Jakir Hossain, 37, son of Mosharrof Hossain of Chashara Balurmath area of Narayongonj. He was rescued and whisked off to Sirajganj General Hospital. Police seized the bus but its driver fled the scene. On Sunday, 17 people died at the same place when a Bogra-bound bus of 'Sabbir Paribahan' from Chittagong collided with a Dhaka-bound bus of 'Azad Paribahan' from Sayedpur, according to a news agency.
