5 drown in boat capsize in Ctg

CHITTAGONG, Jan 5: Five workers of a local dockyard drowned and five others are missing in a boat capsize at Boalkhali upazila of the district today.
The engine-boat with some 40 passengers capsized in the Raikhali Khal of the river Karnafuli near the FMC Corporation Dockyard at West Gomdandi area of the upazila at around 1.30 pm, police said.
Locals rescued most of the passengers and sent five of them to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital while the bodies of five workers were handed over to the police, officer-in-charge of Boalkhali police station said.
He said that the deceased have been identified as Nayan Meah (37) and Mohammed Masud (21) of Netrokona district, Abul Kashem (48) and Rahmat Ali (22) of Boalkhali and Md Imran of Wireless Colony under Khulshi police station in the city. All the deceased were workers of the dockyard.
Police said in the evening that the boat was yet to be salvaged. Quoting the villagers, the police said that it was carrying passengers more than its capacity.
