5 get life term for murder in Bagerhat

A court in Bagerhat on Thursday convicted five people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment each for killing a man in 2007.
The lifers are Jaidev Biswas, his brother Mahadev Biswas, Sheikh Sirajul Islam, Romen Nath Rai and Shadhan Biswas. All of them were present on the dock when the judgement was pronounced.
According to the prosecution, Jaidev and the four people beat up Shwet Sardar, a cook and son of Harshit Sardar of Umuria upazila in Khulna, suspecting his involvement in theft of money from the bag of Jaidev on at Dublarchar in the Sundarbans on February 27, 2007, leaving him dead on the spot.
The victim’s son had filed a case with Mongla Police Station on March 1, 2007.
After examining the records and witnesses Sessions’ Judge SM Solaiman handed down the verdict, according to UNB.
