5 HC judges take oath

Five judges of the High Court, recently made permanent, have taken oath. Chief Justice M Muzammel Hossain administered the oath to them at the Supreme Court auditorium on Thursday. The judges who took oath are Justice Ashish Ranjan Das, Justice Mahmudul Hoque, Justice Md Badruzzaman, Justice Zafar Ahmed and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo. Supreme Court Registrar AKM Shamsul Islam conducted the oath ceremony. Judges of both divisions of the Supreme Court were present at the ceremony. The six judges were appointed on June 14, 2012. Five of them were made permanent on June 9 this year. It's not clear what happens to the 6th judge -- ABM Altaf Hossain. There are 89 judges in the High Court Division. Two of them --- Justice Md Shahinur Islam and Justice Kashefa Hussain --- have been appointed as additional judges. Six High Court judges including Justice Md Shahinur Islam are serving on the International Crimes Tribunal formed to try those who committed crimes against humanity during the 1971 War of Independence. The remaining judges work in both single and dual benches of the High Court, according to bdnews24.com.
