5 held in Rajshahi for killing Natore UP chairman

The members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested five accused in Natore UP chairman Fanu murder case from Bagmara upazila in Rajshahi district on Tuesday. The arrested are Ibrahim Khalil, 55, organising secretary of Singra upazila BNP in Natore district, Shamsul Islam Mondal, 47, Shah Alam, 22, Abdul Karim, 36, and Haider Rashid, 32. All hail from Singra. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-5 conducted a drive at Goalkandi village and arrested them from the house of Babul Islam. An LMG, two revolvers, a pistol and a knife were also recovered from their possession. Later, they were handed over to Bagmara Police Station. Fazlar Rahman Fanu, 65, chairman of Kalam Union Parishad and an activist of Singra upazila unit of Awami League, was shot dead at Shahpara in Singra on January 18, according to UNB.
