5 held with gold, foreign currencies at Shahjalal

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel seized 1 kilograms (kg) of gold bars and gold-made ornaments and a large amount of foreign currency at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International Airport in Dhaka on Monday night. Five people were also arrested in this connection. The arrestees are Md Manjur Hossain, 48, Hazi Md Anwar Hossain, 60, Md Abdullah, 24, Hazi Md Faruk Mia, 44, and Md Yusuf, 26. A statement from Rab headquarters said the five were nabbed while trying to cross the immigration with the gold and foreign currency illegally. Six gold bars, 46 gold-made chains and 9 gold rings were found when officials searched the arrestees. A Toyota car, 767 foreign currency notes of different denominations and Tk 46,500 were also recovered from them. Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station Shah Alam on Tuesday said Rab will file a case in this connection, according to a news agency.
