5 human traffickers held

COX’S BAZAR: Police in an overnight drive Friday arrested five members of an organised gang of human traffickers from different parts of Teknaf upazila in connection with the bay firing that left five Bangladeshi dead.
Officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Mokhtar Hossain said Teknaf thana police conducted a combing operation in the upazila and arrested the five people on charge of their suspected involvement in a human trafficking gang, according to a news agency.
Earlier, on Thursday, police in separate drives arrested two people from Cox’s Bazar town and Narsingdi —for their alleged involvement in the firing on a Malaysia-bound trawler in the Bay of Bengal.
On Wednesday, five Bangladeshi nationals were killed and 40 others injured as human traffickers opened fire on them in the bay while they were going to Malaysia illegally in a trawler.
Three foreign brokers –– one Myanmar national and two Thai citizens — were captured from the trawler.
