5 injured in clash over land

Five people were injured in a clash over a land-related dispute in Akkelpur upazila in Joypurhat district on Monday. Police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Ahammad Ali and his younger brother Rezaul Islam over the ownership of a piece of land at Chukaibari village. The clash ensued following an altercation as one of them attempted to set up a latrine in a corner of the land on Monday afternoon. At one stage, family members of the two siblings attacked each other, leaving five people injured on both sides. Injured Ahammad Ali, 48, and his wife Helena Begum, 43, their two sons Swadhin Hossain, 28, and Belal Hossain, 24; and Ahammad’s rival younger brother Rezaul Islam, 27, were admitted to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex. Rezaus Sadik Reza, officer-in-charge of Akkelpur Police Station, confirmed the incident, according to UNB.
