At least five people were injured in a clash between two factions of local unit of Jubo League at Lakshmipur Sadar upazila on Sunday. Witnesses said Jubo League Charshahi union unit convenor Morshed Alam and its leader Mamun had long been at loggerheads over establishing supremacy in the area. The clash ensued when a group of people led by Bablu, brother of Morshed, beat up Arif Hossain, a Jubo League activist of the Mamun-led faction, on Saturday night. As a sequel to that, a chase and counter-chase took place between the two rival groups at Basurhat on Sunday. During the melee, both the groups exchanged several gunshots, leaving five people injured, including three with bullets. Informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. Additional police has been deployed in the area, according to UNB.
