5 killed as gas tanker collides with autorickshaw in Kushtia

Five people, including three women, have been killed in a collision between a gas tanker and an autorickshaw in Kushtia Sadar, reports bdnews24.com.
The accident occurred around 2:30pm on Saturday on the town's Bypass Road, according to Abu Obayed, chief of Chourhash Highway Police Station.
The identities of the victims could not be immediately confirmed, but they include passengers on the autorickshaw and the vehicle's driver.
Kushtia Fire Service official Ardesh Ali said the autorickshaw was heading toward Jhenaidah from Kaburgat via the bypass.
The tanker, on the other hand, was transporting liquid gas from Khulna to Pabna's Ishwardi.
The two vehicles collided head-on in front of a filling station, leaving the autorickshaw completely mangled.
Two others were rushed to Kushtia General Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared them dead.
Authorities were trying to confirm the identities of the victims and find their families.
The accident briefly disrupted traffic on the Bypass Road.
Chourhash Highway Police Station Inspector Joydev said that police eventually brought the situation under control. He added that both vehicles involved in the accident have been seized.
The tanker's driver managed to flee the scene.
