5 killed in incidents in dists

HABIGANJ, Apr 9 (UNB): Two people were killed in a head- on-collision between abus and a pickup van in Borshina area of Bahubol Upazila early today (Saturday). The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at about 3:30am when the Sylhet bound passenger bus collided with the pickup van at the point, leaving the driver and helper of the van dead on the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent to hospital morgue for autopsy. Another report from Gazipur adds : A youth was killed in a road accident when a truck knocked him down from behind at Chandra in Kaliakoir Upazila on Dhaka-Tangail road Friday morning. The deceased was identified as Sabuj (24), son of Nur Alam of Borburi village of Tetulia Thana of Panchagarh. He worked at Keya Paribahan Counter. Konabari highway police SI Azad said the accident occurred when a Tangail-bound truck hit Sabuj while he was going to Chandra from Palli Biddut area, leaving him dead on the spot. The truck fled away. Kaliakoir thana police recovered the body and handed over it to his family. Another report from Narsingdi adds: Two people were killed and six others injured in a head-on-collision between two speed boats in Meghna river adjacent to Panchaboti bazar in Sadar Upazila Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Asma Begum (35) of Banchharampur Upazila in Brahmanbaria district and Nithila Akhter (9), of Ghoradia village in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. Police said the accident occurred at about 8:30pm when a speed boat carrying six passengers from old launch ghat area of the district town collided with another speed boat, leaving the duo dead on the spot and six other passengers injured. Hearing hue and cry local people recovered the bodies and rescued the injured. The bodies were sent to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Sadar Thana in this connection.
