Tuesday, 5 June 2007

Five national cricketers-- new captain Mohammad Ashraful, vice captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Mohammed Rafique, Abdur Razzak and Tamim Iqbal -- left the city for India Monday morning by a flight of the GMG Airlines to represent Asia in the Afro-Asia Cup 2007, reports UNB.
Except veteran Rafique, four others -- Ashraful, Mashrafe, Razzak and Tamim -- have been selected for the Twenty/20 match, which will be held in Bangalore today (Tuesday).
Mashrafe, who was initially selected for only the twenty/20 match, became the second Bangladeshi to be included in the ODI  squad after Rafique. Mashrafe replaced Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar, who failed to recover from a knee injury.
The first ODI between Asia XI and Africa XI will be played in Bangalore on June 6, which will be followed by the second and third ODIs in Chennai on June 9 and 10 respectively.
