5 robbers arrested in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH, May 4 (UNB) : Five alleged robbers were arrested while fleeing by a microbus with looted poultry birds at Jogdal Charmile area under Sadar Upazila Wednesday early hours. The arrestees were identified as Ayiza (25), Shahirul (25), Rubel (27), Saju (30), and Profullo (28). They hailed from Sadar Upazila. Police said poultry traders Liton and Mithun were coming to the district headquarters from Tentulia Upazila with 320 chickens by two rickshaw-vans late at night. On the way at Jogdal Charmile area, a gang of robbers numbering 1012 intercepted them. At one stage, they tied up the hands and legs of the traders and looted the chickens at gunpoint. Later, hearing the hue and cry of the traders, local people after a hot chase seized the microbus and caught five of the muggers while others managed to flee. Sources said trader Majharul Islam of Sadar Upazila Shaheb bazar area withdrew Tk 0.8 million from Dutch Bangla Bank branch in Barutkhana area of the city at around 4pm. When Majhar on his way to Ambarkhana in a rickshaw reached Haowapara, a gang of six snatchers intercepted him and took away the money at gun point. A case was filed.
