50 hurt in villagers’ clash

At least 50 people, including two policemen, were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over a trifling matter at Pangasi Haat at Raiganj upazila in Sirajganj Tuesday morning. Officer-in-charge of Raiganj Police Station Anisur Rahman said the clash ensued following an altercation between Tafir Uddin of Rameshwargati village and Helaluddin of Pangasi village over buying pumpkins in a local market on Monday afternoon. As a sequel to the altercation, people of two villages equipped with home-made arms gathered in the area in the morning and attacked each other, leaving at least 48 people injured. Four houses were torched and five-six houses vandalided at that time. Valuables were also looted from some houses during the clash. Two police constables were inured at that time when the clashing villagers threw brick chips at each other, according to UNB.
