About 50 women workers of a garment factory were wounded in stampede, caused by fire-scare at Fakirhat in Chittagong Sunday, reports UNB.
The stampede at 2:30pm occurred when the security man of Delta Fashion Limited rang alarm bell in apprehension of fire from sparks in electric wire in the sixth floor of the seven-storied building. Scared by the sounds of fire alarm workers in a mad rush attempted each to escape first resulting in stampede, witnesses said.
Seventeen badly wounded workers were admitted to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Doctors said condition of six was serious.
