50,000 marooned as 400m embankment collapses in Bogra

About 400 meters of a flood control embankment at Sheikhpara in Sariakandi Upazila in Bogra district collapsed on Friday, flooding 50 villages rendering over 50,000 people marooned. Three unions in Sariakandi and two under Dhunat upazila were flooded by waters from Jamuna River after the Sheikhpara embankment caved in. The overall flood situation worsened in the district as the water level in Jamuna continues to rise. Water Development Board Sources said the Jamuna River is flowing 97 cm above the danger level at Sariakandi point, according to a news agency.
