50pc MPs in JS now businessmen

Out of the 350 lawmakers of the 10th Jatiya Sangsad (JS), 175 MPs are businessmen (50 per cent), 51 MPs lawyers and 21 Farmers, reports UNB.
Out of the 300 MPs elected directly, 258 pay income taxes.
Besides, 275 MPs (78.57 per cent) are either postgraduates or graduates while 15 have educational qualification below the SSC, 21 below the HSC, 37 are undergraduates and 128 MPs postgraduates.
Analysing the affidavits of the MPs submitted to the Election Commission during the 10th national election, Sushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Sujan), a non-government organisation, came up with the statistics at a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Sunday.
Sujan executive members Ali Imam Majumder and Dr Tofail Ahmed and Sujan secretary Dr Badiul Alam Majumder were present at the press conference while its central coordinator Dilip Kumar Majumder presented the keynote paper.
The annual income of each 55 MPs, including the income of their dependants, is more than Tk 1.0 crore or 10 million each while that of 17 is less than Tk 2.0 lakh or 0.2 million.
A total of 94 MPs have wealth, including that of their dependants, worth more than Tk 5.0 crore or 50 million each while 12 others have wealth worth less than Tk 5.0 lakh or 0.5 million.
