50pc rise in global rice output by ‘50 : DG IRRI

RANGPUR, Oct 13: Director General (DG) of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Dr Robert S. Zeigler has said comprehensive efforts have been progressing successfully to attain 50 per cent increase in global rice production by 2050. Dr Zeigler said this in an exclusive interview taken by BSS reporter, at his office at IRRI headquarters in Los Banos city of the Philippines recently. Regarding the tremendous success achieved by Bangladesh in agriculture sector despite climate change, Dr Zeigler said Bangladesh has made a revolution in increasing rice production sustainably to feed its people after attaining self-sufficiency.     — BSS
