510 people die in 527 road accidents in April: BJKS

Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity (BJKS), a passenger welfare platform, said a total of 510 people were killed and 1,268 injured in 527 road accidents across the country in April 2026.
Besides, 49 people were killed and 11 injured in 54 railway accidents in the month, while four people died in five waterway accidents. Altogether, 563 people were killed and 1,279 injured in 586 accidents across road, rail and waterways.
BJKS Secretary General Md Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury revealed the data in a report, sent to the media on Wednesday.
A total of 139 motorbike accidents claimed 142 lives and left 124 injured, which was 26.37 per cent of the total accidents, 27.84 per cent of the total deaths, and 9.77 per cent of the total injured persons.
Mr Chowdhury said Chattogram division recorded the highest number of road accidents, with 135 crashes leaving 137 dead and 263 injured. Mymensingh division saw the lowest accidents, with 17 crashes resulting in 18 deaths and 64 injuries.
The BJKS in its analysis finds that of the total accidents in April, 38.51 per cent happened on national highways, 31.49 per cent on regional roads, and 22.96 per cent on feeder roads. Besides, of the total accidents, 5.69 per cent happened in the capital Dhaka.
