516 more cases being withdrawn

The scrutiny committee has recommended withdrawal of a further 516 cases on consideration that they had been filed to persecute politicians, reports bdnews24.com.
The government body, headed by State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam, Tuesday picked those from 973 cases that came under the scanner. But the junior minister said no cases against the opposition were recommended.
The meeting, held at the home ministry, also rejected 121 cases and would have a look at 336 more applications in the next sitting.
Of the scrutinised cases, 10 of the19 cases filed by the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) were recommended for cancellation while six others were rejected.
As many as 954 cases, filed under the penal code and by the National Board of Revenue (NBR), were discussed Tuesday. Of those, 506 were suggested for withdrawal, 115 were rejected and 333 were asked to be presented in the next meeting.
Tuesday's meeting recommended withdrawing the cases against Awami League (AL) MP Habibur Rahman Mollah, ex-MP HBM Iqbal and Haji Mohammad Selim, city AL leader Sayeed Khokan and Jatiya Party secretary general ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader.
