52 sued over Dinajpur violence: Section 144 extended

DINAJPUR, Aug 6 (UNB): At least 52 people were sued on Saturday night in connection with the two days' of communal violence over an attempt to permanently set up a mosque at a thatched structure near a temple in Chirirbandar upazila.
Tariqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chirirbandar Police Station told UNB that Sub Inspector (SI) Aminul Islam lodged the case naming Hamida Banu, owner of the land where the thatched structure was built, as the prime accused.
``Many unnamed people have also been accused in the case for their involvement with the untoward incident at Balaibazar village, where the series of clashes, arson and looting took place from Friday evening to Saturday morning``, he informed.
Meanwhile, Advocate Animesh Roy, advisor of the District Puja Celebration Committee, also lodged a general diary (GD) in connection with attack the members of Hindu community, torching of their dwelling houses and looting of their properties.
At least seven people were injured, 11 houses set ablaze and looted in the series of clashes between the local Hindus and Muslims sparked when an attempt was made to renovate a temporary mosque on the land, owned by Hamida Banu, at Bolaibazar, hardly 200 meters away from a temple.
