5,290 died in launch capsize in last 2 decades in BD: Study

A total of 5,290 passengers died in separate launch accidents in the country’s waterways during the last two decades and 393 families were shattered. Among the 393 affected families, all members of 383 families perished in the accidents, a study says. The study said the country’s in land waterways was ignored during the tenure of previous regime, while they developed road network for the interest of multinational companies. ‘All members of 383 families perished while 656 families were left destitute losing their wage earners in the accidents from 1994 to 2013, the study report, disseminated at a function in the city on Monday, said, according to BSS.
