53 Rana Plaza victims get cheques

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wednesday handed over cheques of financial assistance from her Relief and Welfare Fund to the families of more 53 persons killed in the deadliest Building Collapse in the history, at Savar on the outskirts of the capital, on April 24 last year, reports UNB.
Seventy-three cheques were handed over among the family members of the 53 persons who were killed in tragic accident and later identified through DNA test.
The Prime Minister has so far distributed Tk 221.1 million (22.11 crore) as financial assistance in nine phases to the families of 909 victims of the Rana Plaza collapse.
The government, as per the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been providing financial assistance and other support including giving jobs to members of the victims as well as educational facilities for their children.
Besides, the government also provided treatment facilities for the persons injured in the accident.
As per the directives of the Prime Minister, the government has so far provided jobs to 777 injured persons in various organisations alongside creating opportunities of education for 14 orphans at Rajshahi Cadet College School and for 17 girls under the management of Anjuman-e Mofidul Islam.
Opportunities have also been created by the government where another 300 children of the families of the victims could be provided with educational facilities.
Prime Minister's Office Secretary Md Abul Kalam Azad, Prime Minister' s Special Assistant Mahbubul Hoque Shakil and BGMEA President Atiqul Islam were present on the occasion.
PM's APS Saifuzzaman Shikhor conducted the cheque handing over ceremony.
