54 gold bars seized at Shah Amanat

Customs officials have seized 54 gold bars at Hazrat Shah Amanat (RA) International Airport. The bars, weighing 6.30 kg, were found inside the shoes of three passengers arriving in Chittagong city on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dubai on Thursday. Nahid Naoshad Mukul, deputy director of Customs Intelligence Directorate, said the passengers – Md Rezauddin Rana, Osman Gani and Md Ayub – were detained after the haul. The Biman flight landed in Chittagong around 10.30am. It was scheduled to fly to Dhaka from the port city. The customs officials searched the three men on the basis of a tip-off. Earlier, on Tuesday, gold bars weighing 107 kg were seized from the same airport. Ten passengers were arrested following the haul, the largest among the recent attempts to smuggle gold through the airport, according to bdnews24.com.
