552 killed, 852 injured in road accidents last month

As many as 552 people were killed and 852 injured in 526 road accidents this April, Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity said in a report on Thursday.
At the same time, 34 people were killed and 67 injured in 42 accidents on the railways, 11 people were killed and 16 people went missing in 10 accidents on the waterways, 597 were killed and 919 injured in a total of 578 accidents on roads, railways and sea routes, according to the report.
During this period, 231 people were killed and 171 injured in 215 motorcycle accidents, which is 40.87 per cent of the total accidents, 41.84 per cent of the dead, 20.07 per cent of the injured.
This information emerged in the monitoring report of the Accident Monitoring Cell of the passenger welfare platform.
The report signed by the secretary general of the organisation Mozammel Haque Chowdhury was circulated to the media.
It was prepared by monitoring the news of road, rail and sea accidents published in the national, regional and online newspapers of the country.
Among the people affected by road accidents, 163 drivers, 90 pedestrians, and 37 transport workers were found in the monitoring report.
This time, 740 vehicles involved in road accidents have been identified.
It showed that 30.54 per cent of motorcycles were involved in bike accidents.
The report said 28.51 per cent of the total accidents that occurred in April took place on national highways, 34.22 per cent on regional highways and 30.98 per cent on feeder roads. Also, 5.70 per cent of the total accidents occurred in Dhaka city, 0.19 percent in Chittagong city and 0.38 percent in level crossings.
