56 mobile phone sets seized at Shahjalal

Customs Intelligence officials on Saturday arrested one along with 56 expensive mobile phone sets, including 48 iPhones, worth around Tk 4.5 million, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. ‘The arrestee, Mohammad Moniruzzaman, 32, was detained by the customs intelligence officials while he was crossing the green channel area of the airport. They seized the mobile phone sets stashed inside his bag,’ said Umme Nahida Akter, assistant director of customs intelligence. The officials said the arrestee was trying to smuggle the mobile phone sets without any import authorisation and permission from Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC). A case was lodged with airport police station in this connection, according to BSS.
