57 turtles seized in city, 3 jailed

A Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) mobile court Friday sentenced three people to different jail terms for trading turtles in the city's Shakhari Bazar area. The elite force also seized 57 turtles of various rare species from their possession, reports UNB.
Sources at the Rab headquarters said a Rab-10 team, led by executive magistrate Md Sarwar Alam, conducted a drive at Shakhari Bazar crossing around 6am.
During the drive, the Rab members found that three people-Kartik Chandra Das, Pradip Chandra Das, 47, his younger brother Pabir Chandra Das, 39 -- were waiting there for selling various species of 57 turtles kept in two sacks. During interrogation, they revealed that they had long been involved in selling turtles.
They said they used to collect turtles from Khulna, Narsingdi and Munshiganj districts and come to Shakhari Bazar crossing every Friday before sunrise for selling those.
